Description
Hi,Youtube team.
I'm Aryan Jha first year btech cse undergrad . While using YouTube, I noticed a usability issue related to playlist navigation that affects the playback experience.
Video Evidence:
📽️ [Watch the bug here] (https://youtu.be/m9naglGY9wU?si=rmith2dBvKlQddXR)
Issue details:
When a video from a playlist is playing, clicking on the playlist icon (next to the video title or in the player controls) correctly displays the playlist on the right-hand side. However, it also redirects the playback to the first video in the playlist instead of continuing to play the current one.
This breaks the viewing flow and forces users to manually scroll and re-select the video they were watching, which is frustrating—especially in long playlists.
Expected Behavior :
Clicking the playlist icon should display the full playlist on the right.
Continue playing the current video without restarting the playlist from the beginning.
Proposed Solution:
Update the playlist icon behavior to preserve the current playback context and scroll to the current video in the list (highlighted), without altering the video that’s currently playing.
Additional Notes:
This small UX fix can significantly improve the user experience for playlist consumption.
Thanks,
Aryan Jha
