Donald J. Trump became the 45th President of the United States in January 2017 after defeating former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in the 2016 general election. Born in Queens, New York in June 1946, the Republican made his name as a real estate mogul. After suffering multiple bankruptcies, Trump became a national star in 2004 with the success of his NBC reality TV show competition, ‘The Apprentice.’ During his predecessor’s two terms in office, Trump drew criticism for being a prominent figure in the birtherism moment, incorrectly suggesting that President Barack Obama was not born in the U.S.

From the moment he kicked off his presidential campaign in June 2015, Trump has been a controversial figure slamming immigration from Mexico, promising a Muslim ban and vowing to build a wall to prevent undocumented migrants from slipping into the U.S.

In 2023, he faces is one of his biggest scandals to date: prison time. Former President Trump is expected to be arraigned on about 30 charges in New York on Tuesday April 4. The charges are related to hush money payments made ahead of the 2016 election to two women who claimed to have had affairs with Trump. He has denied the affairs and any wrongdoing.
