John F. Kennedy Jr. — As a ‘Son of Camelot,’ the world watched John Fitzgerald Kennedy Jr. grow up. The son of President John F. Kennedy and Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, the little boy once called “John John” lived through tragedy, as his father was assassinated days before his third birthday. In the wake of his father’s death, JFK Jr. attended private schools in Manhattan before majoring in American studies at Brown University. He earned his J.D. degree from New York University School of Law, and after failing the bar exam twice, he passed in 1990. He won his first case as a prosecutor in 1991, but switched careers in 1992. He pursued a life in journalism, founding ‘George’ magazine in 1995. It was around that time he met Carolyn Bessette, and the two would start a romance that led them to the altar in 1996. Sadly, while on their way to the wedding of his cousin, Rory Kennedy, at Martha’s Vineyard, JFK Jr., Carolyn, and his sister-in-law, Lauren Bessette, died in a plane accident, when the Piper Saratoga light aircraft he was piloting crashed into the Atlantic Ocean.
