Tyler Hoechlin (born Tyler Lee Hoechlin on September 11, 1987 in Corona, California) is an American actor, best known for playing Martin on The WB/CW’s 7th Heaven (2003 – 2007) and Derek on MTV’s Teen Wolf. An avid baseball player since the age of eight, Tyler took some time off from acting after 7th Heaven to attend the University of California Irvine — where, of course, he also played baseball.

‘Teen Wolf’: Tyler Hoechlin No Longer A Series Regular In Season 5

Bad news for ‘Teen Wolf’ fans, unfortunately. Jeff Davis himself has confirmed that Tyler Hoechlin will not be returning full-time to Beacon Hills.
Tyler Hoechlin, 27, has decided it’s time for him to start moving on from Teen Wolf. Although it was the actor’s decision to do so, executive producer Jeff Davis reveals that although Derek Hale won’t be around as much, we haven’t seen the “last” of him just yet.
