If you’re already fully dialed into the Amazon ecosystem, you’ve probably already heard about Prime Video add-on subscriptions — you may even have a few yourself.

For those who don’t, here’s the gist: you can subscribe to 100+ streaming services right inside of Prime Video, so a bulk of your streaming content is aggregated into one service.

Since its initial launch in 2015, subscriptions on Prime Video has amassed a roster of nearly 100 streaming services you can subscribe to for a monthly price identical to what you’d pay if you subscribed outside of Prime Video.

You might be wondering, why would I do this? Aren’t all of these services competitors?

Yes, in theory. Add-on subscriptions make our lives easier, so we aren’t going to question it!

Essentially, instead of subscribing to any of the 100+ available add-ons via their own platforms, you can subscribe through Prime Video, pay with the same payment info your Amazon purchases use, and watch everything inside one streamlined app.

Your subscription will always be connected to your Amazon account and available whenever you log into Prime Video.

A big draw to Prime Video add-on subscriptions for cord-cutters could be that some of the services available are ones that typically come at an extra cost to traditional cable subscribers, like Max, STARZ, or Paramount+. For the monthly price, which varies by subscription, you’ll also get access to any live channels that may come with the service (like HBO with Max, or live, local CBS with Paramount+ with Showtime).

Most subscriptions come with a seven-day free trial and the option to cancel anytime.

How are Subscriptions on Prime Video Different From Prime Video?

As an Amazon Prime member, you get access to a bunch of perks, like free two-day shipping, savings at Whole Foods, and prescription savings.

Another one of those perks is Prime Video, Amazon’s streaming service with original programming, like Overcompensating and The Summer I Turned Pretty, and an extensive catalog of popular movies and TV shows. Additionally, Prime and non-Prime members can buy or rent movies through Prime Video for a fee.

Also available for non-Prime members, subscriptions on Prime Video allow you to subscribe to a third-party streaming service inside of the Prime Video app. It’s convenient because your payment info is all in one place, and you’ll only have to remember one username and password.

Do I Have to Pay More for Prime Video Add-on Subscriptions?

Yes, you do.

Every Prime Video add-on subscription has an additional monthly cost, charged to the default payment method on your Amazon Prime account.Subscriptions can start at just $1.99/month, depending on the service, but some of the premium subscriptions are slightly higher (average $9.99/month) and include options for ad-free plans. Max, for example, can cost you up to $16.99/month.
