About

Michelle Krupa is a senior editor in CNN’s National News Hub, based in Atlanta. She manages story development from idea to publication on the global network’s digital platforms, helping craft pieces that convey the challenges of our time and introduce readers to people and ideas they might not otherwise encounter.

A former political reporter, Krupa works with CNN’s national staff to cover the most pressing stories unfolding in the United States, from the death penalty and violence in schools and to natural disasters’ fallout and civil rights policy. She takes special interest in story craft, coaching reporters to capture broad, emerging storylines and use literary techniques to drive home the humanity behind hard-news headlines. She also handles breaking news and has edited CNN’s award-winning 5 Things newsletter.

On subjects close to her professional and personal experience – New Orleans’ culture, Catholicism, campus safety, communities’ struggle with nature – Krupa sometimes reports and writes stories for CNN, where she started in 2012 as a TV scriptwriter for the network’s top anchors, often as the day’s biggest news developed on live air.

She previously worked in the newsrooms of The Observer at the University of Notre Dame, The Beacon News in Aurora, Illinois, the University of Maryland’s Capital News Service, and she spent a decade with The Times-Picayune, where the staff’s work covering Hurricane Katrina won two Pulitzer Prizes. Krupa also has served on the advisory board of Notre Dame’s Gallivan Program in Journalism, Ethics, and Democracy.
