Penguins Cap Whirlwind Draft, Draft Penn State Forward

Kale Dach will jump from the BCHL to the WHL and then to Penn State. Presumably, one day he would like to jump to the NHL.
Dach, no relation to Kirby Dach, capped a wild 2025 NHL Draft for the Penguins in which they selected 13 players over seven rounds, packing their development camp rosters full next week. The Penguins selected Dach in the seventh round with the 201st overall pick, and the Penguins’ final pick of their marathon draft weekend.
Dach will move up from the BCHL to the Calgary Hitmen of the WHL next season. He has already committed to Penn State for the 2026-27 season. The pivot from Fort Saskatchewan, which is an Edmonton suburb. Last season with the Sherwood Park Crusaders, Dach had 22 goals with 65 points in just 54 games.
The BCHL is a B league to the WHL, so the 5-foot-11, 172-pound center will face increased competition next season.
Carter Sanderson
Before the Penguins took Dach, they selected Carter Sanderson in the sixth round with the 169th overall pick. Sanderson had just 11 points, including five goals, in 46 games for the Muskegon Lumberjacks of the USHL. He also played a couple of games for the U.S. National U18 Team.
He will play at the University of North Dakota next season.
The only pick I didn’t like was Jordan Charron (another Soo player). I get that Dubas has a soft spot for the Soo, but IMO, better players (i.e. Viktor Klingsell, Emile Guite, Owen Griffen or Kirill Yemelyanov) were available.
Max Talbot round 8, pick #234, Hornqvist round 7, #230
Syd, when we, as Penguins fans, are accustomed until recently to dining on filet mignon and lobster 🦞 tail, it’s a little difficult to adjust our palates to a steady diet of ground beef and fish sticks. Talbot and Hornquist were great Penguins but ultimately they were side dishes while your namesake and Geno and Jaromir and Coffee, etc were the entrees. GMKD gets paid for recognizing the difference and ordering from the menu accordingly. The occasional blue plate special can be a pleasant surprise but it will never substitute for the fine dining we have been accustomed to. We… Read more »
Nice analogy.
Give Duby a C- for talent evaluation and F for vision. This was not the year to stockpile draft picks. Lot of bottom sixes and third pairs here. Precious little upside.
