The project management software landscape is littered with general-purpose platforms that can help project managers in multiple fields. While these platforms are powerful, sometimes using software designed for a specific industry is better. This is why we have rounded up project management platforms for construction businesses. Using our rubric, I have evaluated 14 platforms and considered 37 data points to find the best software.

I narrowed my list down to the top 10. BuildBook topped our list of the best construction project management software, thanks to its end-to-end business management tools. BuildBook

$79 per month for one user ($20 for additional users)

No

Task management, CRM, client portal, advanced financial tools, mobile applications

Expert Take

BuildBook is relatively new to the construction project management scene but has been making waves. BuildBook features a clean, easy-to-navigate interface, robust communication tools, a full-featured CRM suite and finance management tools.

BuildBook offers plenty of budgeting and financial management tools.

While BuildBook lacks some advanced features, such as support for BIM (Building Information Modeling), the platform will appeal to small businesses, startups and even well-established businesses looking for an all-in-one business management platform. Plans start at $79 per month for one user, which puts the platform within reach of many SMBs.

Features

BuildBook is an end-to-end business management platform offering CRM tools, sales pipelines, job costing, estimates, sales proposals, and billing and invoicing features. In addition, you’ll find client portals, project and task management tools, mobile applications, chat and messaging features, QuickBooks integration and team management tools.

BuildBook offers Gantt charts, Kanban boards, lists and calendars to help manage tasks.

Pricing

If you visit the BuildBook website, you won’t find pricing information listed, which is a tactic I don’t like. However, after some research, I found the plan and pricing information. BuildBook offers three plans: Solo, Team and Business.

Solo costs $79 per month and has a one-user limit. The Team plan supports five users and costs $149 per month, and the Business plan, which supports eight users, costs $249 per month. If you want to add more users past the user limit, you’ll need to pay an extra $20 per month per user.

Customer Service

BuildBook users have several ways to receive help with the software. An extensive knowledge base with written guides and videos is available for those who like to work alone when solving problems. Members can also get help through an in-app live chat tool, email and a help desk that you can call.

I interacted with the customer service team through all three communication channels. The agent I spoke with on the phone was knowledgeable about the product and courteous. I can say the same about the agent who hopped on a live chat with me. Email support could be better, though. I sent several emails, and it took roughly two days to receive a response. Still, the information provided was very helpful.

Reputation

After researching, I could not find evidence of data breaches, which is always good. Looking at the user review site Capterra, it’s clear that industry professionals like the platform. Many users praise the friendly interface, project visibility and communication tools. However, being a relatively new platform, users are concerned with missing features, the basic nature of some tools and the presence of software bugs.

Pros & Cons
  • Intuitive interface
  • End-to-end business management tools
  • Plenty of task management features
  • Lacks some advanced features
  • Pricing is not publicly available
  • Customer support through email is slow

ConstructionOnline

$475 per month (residential plan billed monthly)

Yes

Project proposals and estimates, project and resource tracking, invoicing, team management

Expert Take

ConstructionOnline will appeal to construction industry professionals looking for one platform to do it all. Platforms such as this can be overly complex, but I found ConstructionOnline user friendly thanks to a well-designed interface. Creating and tracking projects was a breeze, as was managing time, resources, financials, permits and documents. Communication was a cinch, too, thanks to the built-in messaging tools.

The dashboards in ConstructionOnline show plenty of key performance indicators.

While the software is simple, the pricing structure is complex. Plans span several categories and range from $119 per month (billed monthly) for a single user to $3,625 per month (billed annually) for an Enterprise plan. Trust me, you’ll spend more time figuring out the plans than how to use the software.

Features

Those in the construction industry will be pleased to know that ConstructionOnline includes ample project and task management tools to organize and track projects and comprehensive financial tools for estimating, invoicing, taxes and payment tracking. There’s also a robust file and document management system, team, resource and sales/CRM tools, mobile applications (Android and iOS) and QuickBooks integration.

Tracking tools allow you to see what tasks need to be completed for the project you’re working on.

Pricing

ConstructionOnline’s pricing structure is complex. There are five categories of plans: Basic, Residential, Commercial, Specialty and Subs, and Multi-Family. Each category then has five plans to choose from. We’ll focus on ConstructionOnline’s Residential plans.

The five tiers in this category are the free Core Tools plan. The Professional plan costs $475 per month (billed monthly). The Team plan costs $792 per month (billed annually). The Business plan costs $1,187 per month (billed annually), while the Enterprise plan costs $3,104 per month (billed annually).

Plenty of add-ons that range in price from $99 per user per month to $300 per user per month when billed monthly are also available. I’m not a fan of companies nickel and diming users, so this is a negative. Your monthly expenditure could dramatically increase if your business needs these tools.

Customer Service

If you need help using ConstructionOnline, you can get it through multiple channels. There’s a helpful knowledge base, dedicated expert training, and email, phone and live chat support. The help I received from customer service was nothing short of top-tier. Live chat agents connect quickly and are polite and knowledgeable. The same can be said for phone support. I also emailed asking for help and received a response in just over three hours.

Reputation

My research shows that ConstructionOnline has never been breached, and real-world users on sites such as Capterra and G2 speak highly of the service. Users praise the platform’s customer support, how easy the software is to use and the cross-platform support. However, some users say the financial tools are complex, the QuickBooks integration can be buggy, and the mobile applications tend to freeze.

Pros & Cons
  • Excellent customer service
  • Intuitive user interface
  • End-to-end business management tools
  • Too many pricey add-ons
  • Complex pricing structure
  • Very limited free plan

$99 per month for three users (billed quarterly)

No

Project, finance, document and people management tools

Expert Take

Contractor Foreman is a robust tool that allows construction professionals to manage every aspect of their projects. The interface is dated, navigation is clunky and some tools aren’t intuitive. Still, the sheer power of the platform will appeal to many. The paid plans should also fit many budgets. Plans start at $99 per month for three users (billed quarterly) and rise to $312 per month (billed quarterly) for unlimited users.

Contractor Foreman offers task and milestone tracking tools, including Gantt charts and Kanban boards.

Features

Contractor Foreman offers project management features that include Kanban boards, Gantt charts, scheduling tools, integrations, and time and resource management tools. It also provides a suite of financial management features that include proposal and estimate tools, client financing, markup, change orders, bid management and procurement tools. People management tools and a CRM are available, as is a robust document management system.

Contractor Foreman displays financial information and invoices on detailed dashboards.

Pricing

Contractor Foreman does not offer a free plan. Still, you can sign up for a 30-day trial of any paid plan. However, you must provide credit card information and follow a strict cancellation procedure to cancel the trial. Be sure to follow the cancellation procedure correctly to avoid being charged the full amount of your chosen quarterly or annual plan.

There are five paid plans in total. Basic, which is only available as an annual plan, costs $49 per month for one user. The Standard plan costs $99 monthly for three users when billed quarterly. The Pro plan runs $212 per month (billed quarterly) and supports 15 users, while the Unlimited plan costs $312 per month for unlimited users when billed quarterly.

Customer Service

Along with most platforms, Contractor Foreman offers users a knowledge base and FAQ to help them solve software-related problems. Outside of this, you can get help through an AI chatbot, live chat and a ticketing system. A phone number is listed, but it is only for sales.

I requested help through the ticketing system and live chat. I had a cordial chat with a representative and left happy. The agent joined the chat quickly, responded rapidly and was knowledgeable. The response I received through the ticketing system was also good. The help took 14 hours to arrive, but the agent did apologize for the slow response, which was nice. The information was helpful and solved my problem.

Reputation

My research has shown that Contractor Foreman has a squeaky-clean security record and that users on Capterra and G2 paint the platform positively. Users like the software’s feature-to-value ratio, its one-stop-shop construction project management nature, and the levels of customer service. However, many users claim to have been billed after canceling trials, dislike the frequency of servers going down and wish there were more integration options.

Houzz Pro

$149 per month for one user (additional users cost $60 monthly)

Yes, but very limited

Project and task tracking, room modeling, CRM, financial and advertising tools

Expert Take

Houzz Pro is more of a CRM and advertising tool than a construction project management platform. Houzz Pro is part of the Houzz network, which connects clients with businesses. Houzz Pro allows contractors to create and submit estimates, create detailed plans and mood boards, and manage projects should they win bids. I found the software, especially the CRM side, easy to use, but many tools, especially task management tools, are basic.

Mood boards allow you and your clients to design rooms.

The Houzz Pro Essential plan starts at $149 monthly for one user. It’s worth noting that many project management tools are unavailable until you jump to the $249 per month Pro plan and that additional users cost $60 per month. These prices make Houzz Pro quite costly and could put it out of reach of small construction companies.

Features

Houzz Pro offers a mixture of marketing, business management and project management tools. You’ll find invoicing, proposal, CRM, online payment tools and reporting features. Team and resource management tools, Gantt charts, calendars and lists for tracking tasks, file and document management solutions, and time tracking tools are also available.

The floor plans tool enables you to create detailed room models in 2D and 3D.

Houzz Pro also offers powerful 2D room planners and 3D model builders, mood boards, mobile applications (iOS and Android), integrations and customer portals that allow you to interact with your clients.

Pricing

Pricing is straightforward. There are three plans: Essential, Pro and Custom. The Essential plan supports one user and costs $149 monthly. The Pro plan supports one user and costs $249 per month. You can add additional users to each plan for $60 per month per user. The Custom plan supports unlimited users and costs $799 monthly. Discounts are available if you pay annually. Houzz Pro also offers a $499 per month advertising package.

Customer Service

Houzz Pro offers a well-designed knowledge base with written guides and videos for those who prefer self-service. It also provides live chat, a ticketing system and phone support. I called the technical support hotline and was greeted by a cheerful agent. They resolved my issue quickly. I submitted a help ticket and received a helpful response after roughly six hours. However, the live chat option was frustrating.

I was not always able to connect to a live agent. When I did have a chat with an agent, my experience was great. The representatives were attentive and friendly, and they knew the product well. Still, it’s not ideal to be left hanging when you need help.

Reputation

Unfortunately, Houzz was the victim of a major cyberattack in 2018. A threat actor stole data from approximately 49 million users. Specifics about network security improvements were not discussed, but Houzz did partner with a forensics firm to secure the platform. Despite this, user reviews on sites such as G2 and Capterra are positive.

Users rave about the CRM features, appreciate the project management tools, and like having all financial, data and building plans in one place. However, they complain about poor customer service, missing features in the mobile apps and the low initial seat count on the Essential and Pro plans.

Autodesk Build

$145 per month per user (billed monthly)

No, but 30-day free trial

Project and task management tools, integrations with financial and BIM modeling platforms

Expert Take

Autodesk Build is a robust platform for managing projects in great detail. It won’t be a good choice for small firms but is ideal for those working on multiple large projects. Autodesk Build enables you to streamline workflows, collaborate, generate detailed reports and integrate with other Autodesk software that supports BIM (3D modeling). Despite looking tired, I found Autodesk’s tools straightforward and the interface easy to navigate.

Autodesk Build allows you to manage documents and other files easily.

Autodesk Build is pricey. You’ll pay $145 per month per user, which makes it less appealing than more affordable platforms on this list that can do similar things. However, if you need software that can integrate with powerful BIM software, you’ll need to pay up.

Features

Autodesk Build features the tools you’d expect to find in a project management platform. There are templates and Gantt charts and lists that support dependencies. You can track issues and manage RFIs (requests for information) and resources. Additionally, you can communicate with team members, upload and manage files and photos, track assets and stay on top of payments. You can also manage meetings and your team.

Autodesk Build integrates seamlessly with Autodesk BIM Coordination, a powerful BIM (building information modeling) platform.

Autodesk Build also offers mobile applications and integrates with third-party tools and other Autodesk products, such as BIM Coordination, which lets you create detailed 3D building renders. However, be prepared to pay for extra Autodesk Construction Cloud subscriptions. Still, the Autodesk ecosystem has many tools that combine to form a powerful software suite for construction firms working on large projects.

Pricing

Autodesk Build has one plan that is broken down into per-user and unlimited-user packages. The per-user price is $145 per month (billed monthly). You can save a small amount of money by paying annually instead of monthly. The plan includes all Autodesk Build features and grants access to Autobuild Docs. You must contact Autodesk to get a quote for the unlimited user option.

Customer Service

Autodesk offers users several ways to receive help. You can visit the help center and read guides or post questions in a forum. You can also get help through the AI chatbot, live chat and a ticketing system. I found live support great. I was greeted promptly, and my issue was resolved. I then wanted to email a question about Autodesk Build but encountered problems.

The ticketing system told me that Build had not been integrated into Autodesk’s support system. It was the same story with Autodesk Docs. I eventually found a product (BIM 360) that had been integrated with the support system and sent an email. It took nearly two days to receive a response, which isn’t great.

Reputation

Unfortunately, Autodesk has been breached numerous times, with the most recent event (a phishing attack) occurring in early 2024. Autodesk was also affected by the SolarWinds attack carried out by a state-backed threat actor in 2019, though it appears no customers were affected.

On user review sites such as Capterra, G2 and Trustpilot, Autodesk (not just Build) is well received. Real-world users appreciate how seamlessly the ecosystem of applications syncs, the easy-to-navigate interfaces and the 3D modeling capabilities. However, many users dislike the subscription costs, the levels of customer support and troubling issues regarding the uninstallation of Autodesk products.

Pros & Cons
  • Comprehensive set of project management tools
  • Easy to navigate and use
  • Integrates with other Autodesk products
  • The interface looks outdated
  • Customer support issues
  • High cost of entry

No, 14-day free trial

Lead management, project and finance management, bid management

Expert Take

Buildxact is a user-friendly project management platform designed for construction startups and small businesses. I enjoyed using Buildxact’s hassle-free software to create projects, estimates and takeoffs and to manage leads. The software is simple, and every tool is intuitive, making it ideal for inexperienced teams. The only sticking point is the cost of entry.

Creating estimates in Buildxact is painless, and you can link them to suppliers, such as Home Depot, for live price information.

The most affordable plan, Entry, costs $169 per month for one user (extra users cost $67 per month per user). You also have to commit to one year of service. The plan also lacks project management tools and financial features. SMBs may be put off by the pricing and annual commitment requirements. Still, Buildxact is as user-friendly as they come.

Features

Buildxact offers all the tools needed to manage construction projects from start to finish. There are lead management tools and customer portals. For bid management, you’ll find estimating and takeoff tools, quoting software and dealer integrations that can ping live prices into estimates. The estimating tools are so good that Buildxact topped our list of the best construction estimating software.

Gantt charts in Buildxact are easy on the eye, simple to create and support dependencies.

Project management features include robust scheduling tools such as calendars, lists and Gantt charts that can highlight the critical path. Cost-tracking features and mobile communication tools for iOS and Android are also present. Additionally, you can create invoices and integrate Buildxact with accounting software to keep track of payments. Unfortunately, Buildxact does not offer BIM or 3D modeling support.

Pricing

Buildxact does not offer a free plan (just a 14-day trial), and the paid plans are on the high side. For one user, the Entry plan costs $169 per month, with additional users costing $67 per month per user (billed monthly). The Pro plan jumps to $279 monthly for two users, with each additional user costing $77 per month (billed monthly). When billed monthly, the Teams plan jumps to $439 per month for four users, with additional users costing $87 per month.

It’s also worth noting that each plan requires a one-year commitment. You can save by paying for a year upfront, but many SMBs simply cannot afford this.

Customer Service

Buildxact does customer service right. Every plan includes software startup assistance, local support and comprehensive training. There’s an extensive knowledge base with plenty of helpful guides, and you can receive help from an AI chatbot, the phone, live chat and email. I tested the phone, live chat and email support staff.

My experiences with live chat agents were pleasant. The chat tool states that an agent will typically respond in a few hours, but every time I used the tool, I was connected to helpful agents within five to 10 minutes. I called the tech support number and had a pleasant chat with an agent who asked if I needed more help after my initial question. Email support was also excellent, with a response being received in roughly three hours.

Reputation

My research shows that Buildxact has not been the victim of any cyberattacks and that user reviews on G2 and Capterra are overwhelmingly positive. Users appreciate the easy-to-use software, the integrations with suppliers and accounting platforms and the helpful customer service. Dislikes include the cost, simple CRM tools and poor reports.

Pros & Cons
  • Fantastic user interface
  • Integrates with suppliers
  • Shallow learning curve
  • No free plan
  • Expensive paid plans
  • No BIM or 3D modeling support

$499 per month for unlimited users (billed monthly)

Customer portal, communication CRM and project management tools

Expert Take

Buildertrend is a cloud-based tool available across multiple platforms (web and mobile). The user interface is well-designed and easy to navigate, and the built-in sales tools eliminate the need for a separate CRM. The project management tools are intuitive and simplify task and resource management, making it ideal for contractors and designers who demand a hassle-free user experience.

This shows how a blueprint is displayed in the takeoff section of Buildertrend.Buildertrend’s Takeoff tool allows you to upload plans, determine measurements and create material estimates.

Buildertrend’s support for unlimited users, documents and photos will appeal to many. However, plan prices will make your foundation rock. The Essential plan, which removes most financial management tools, costs $499 per month (billed monthly). Still, most SMBs will appreciate Buildertrend; you just need to ensure you have the finances.

Features

Buildertrend offers finance tools that enable expense tracking, invoice creation, customer payments and purchase order management. Project management tools include Gantt charts, to-do lists, timesheets and a takeoff tool for building plans and blueprints. File management tools, templates and a customer approval tool are also included.

The calendars in Buildertrend make it easy to stay on track with multiple projects.

Additionally, Buildertrend offers communication and resource management tools, customer portals, mobile apps, integrations and a CRM suite, making it a very functional platform.

Pricing

Buildertrend has kept its plan offerings simple by offering only three plans. The Essential plan costs $499 per month, the Advanced plan costs $799 per month, and the Complete plan jumps to $1,099 per month. Each plan is billed monthly and supports unlimited projects and users. These fees are high, but you can save money by paying annually.

Customer Service

Regarding support, you’ll find a knowledge base, on-site consulting options and a learning academy. For an extra $100 per month (free if you pay for an annual plan), you can add Buildertrend Boost. This plan adds a 24/7 help center and unlimited email, chat and phone support. I do not like paid support options, especially when member plans are costly. Those without the Boost package can receive phone and email help.

I contacted Buildertrend by calling the support line and sending an email. When I called, I was quickly connected to a cheerful agent. They happily answered my questions and seemed very knowledgeable. The help I received through email was also of high quality. I received a detailed response in just under two hours.

Reputation

I’m happy to say that threat actors have not breached Buildertrend. The platform also scores well on Capterra, G2 and Trustpilot. Users appreciate how customizable the platform is, its project management tools and its user-friendliness. However, there are complaints. Users do not like the poorly designed mobile applications, the cost of the plans or the financial tools, which many say are confusing.

Yes, but very limited

Relational databases, finance and project management tools, AI, automation builder

Expert Take

Quickbase, a no-code relational database platform that integrates with Autodesk for BIM modeling, is a compelling option for those wanting to track projects and manage documents. However, what I found frustrating was the lack of collaboration tools and client portals, the dated user interface, which is slow and tricky to navigate, and the steep learning curve.

Quickbase’s dashboards are loaded with key project information.

Due to its powerful databases, Quickbase is ideal for complex construction projects, but the cost will make many SMBs balk. The Team plan starts at $35 per user per month (billed annually) and has a minimum user requirement of 20. Thus, Quickbase will cost SMBs $700 per month or $8,400 per year for a plan that lacks key features. Still, there’s no denying that Quickbase is a powerful tool overall.

Features

In Quickbase, you’ll find relational databases, Kanban boards, Gantt charts and calendars that can help organize and track tasks. A powerful AI tool can help you build project applications. You can process payments, and there are many user management tools, advanced reports and an automation builder. There’s an exchange with pre-made applications (templates), and Quickbase can integrate with many leading platforms.

The Kanban boards are perhaps the platform’s best task-tracking tool.

Pricing

Quickbase’s prices look okay, but the plans have lofty minimum user requirements. There is a free plan, but it is only for demoing basic features. The Team plan has a minimum user requirement of 20 and costs $35 per user monthly. The Business plan has a minimum user requirement of 40 and costs $55 per user monthly. You can purchase both monthly or annually.

An Enterprise plan is available. The plan is highly customizable, so you must request a quote. I asked for a quote for a team of 25 and was told the plan would cost between $8,000 and $50,000 annually, depending on the required features.

Customer Service

Quickbase’s customer support options are decent. There’s a helpful knowledge base, a community forum, a ticketing system and a university where you can sharpen your skills. Unfortunately, live chat is only for sales questions. There is phone support, but you can only request a callback. Premium support options can also be added.

When using the ticketing system, you’ll see a notice stating that replies typically take one day. I sent two emails. One went to the sales department, and I received a response from an agent in around 10 minutes. The email I sent asking for technical support took six hours to receive a reply. Unfortunately, I never received a callback despite sharing my phone number.

Reputation

My research hasn’t uncovered news of any data breaches, and Quickbase’s user reputation on Capterra and G2 is excellent. Users like the no-code application development tools, the relational databases and the pipeline (automation) builder. Common complaints include the cost of entry, the steep learning curve and inconsistent customer service.

Pros & Cons
  • Powerful relational databases
  • Good task and document management tools
  • Plenty of templates and integrations
  • Slow, dated interface
  • Steep learning curve
  • User minimums make it expensive

CoConstruct

Project, file, finance and people management tools, integrations

Expert Take

CoConstruct, now owned by Buildertrend, is an end-to-end construction project management platform. It doesn’t support BIM or 3D modeling features, but it does offer plenty of robust finance and file management tools, solid project management features and client management tools that help increase efficiency and ensure client satisfaction.

The knowledge base contains well-written guides with embedded videos.

However, my experience with the customer service team (which I’ll cover later) and the lack of publicly available pricing raise a red flag. Still, CoConstruct checks all the right boxes for construction project management software and will likely appeal to many small to medium-sized construction and general contractor firms.

Features

CoConstruct offers a suite of tools that can help project managers. These include CRM tools, cost cataloging features, and proposal and contract management tools. There are also scheduling features, project budgeting and estimating tools, integrations, time management tools, job logs, online payment support and a task manager.

Additionally, CoConstruct provides a document management system (DMS) and robust file photo management tools. These tools allow managers to keep track of certificates and licenses, permits and invoices. Change orders, punch lists, warranty requests and labor budgets can also be managed. Lastly, customer portals allow you to stay in touch with clients.

Pricing

CoConstruct is quite protective of its platform and does not publicly share price information. No matter how hard I tried to get representatives to spill the beans, they would not part ways with pricing data. This type of marketing that tries to force potential clients into often uncomfortable high-pressure sales meetings is something I look down upon. Transparency is always the key to building great relationships. CoConstruct would do well to learn this.

Customer Service

If you find yourself in a bind and need help, there are several ways to obtain it. You can peruse the help center and knowledge base and read guides, submit a support ticket or call the customer service help desk between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. ET. I submitted a ticket requesting help and called the help desk to put CoConstruct’s customer service to the test.

Digging into the help center is a surefire way to get help.

It took just 10 minutes to receive a response to my service ticket. However, the help could have been better. Instead of answering my question, the agent who responded told me to contact CoContruct’s new owner, Buildertrend, and promptly closed my ticket. Nowhere on the website does CoConstruct ask customers to reach out to Buildertrend.

The agent I spoke with on the phone was okay and provided help, but it sounded like I was inconveniencing them. Overall, my experience with customer support was abysmal.

Reputation

My research has not led me to believe that CoConstruct has been the victim of data leaks. The platform also scores well on user review sites such as Trustpilot and G2. Users are happy with the client communication tools, the financial features and the file storage tools. Some users dislike the interface, lackluster mobile applications and unknowns about the company since its sale to Buildertrend.

Pros & Cons
  • Robust feature set
  • Well-designed knowledge base
  • Integrations with popular accounting software
  • Poor customer service

Expert Take

While monday.com is a do-it-all project management platform and may lack advanced features, such as BIM support, it’s still a solid option for construction industry professionals due to its outstanding task management tools, industry templates and document management tools. I have not found a more straightforward platform that can be used in multiple industries than monday.com.

The dashboards on monday.com are customizable and easy to read.

The software’s colorful interface can be tailored to suit your needs and can function as a CRM. The customizable dashboards that display lots of project information are the best in the business. There are numerous integrations and monday.com is affordable. Plans start at $12 per member per month (billed monthly) with a three-user minimum.

Features

Launch monday.com, and you’ll find all the tools you need to manage construction projects, including Kanban boards, Gantt charts, dashboards, lists, budget and resource management features, and construction industry templates. Additionally, monday.com offers time tracking, messaging, mobile applications for use in the field, a straightforward automation builder, plenty of integrations, file sharing, AI, whiteboards and collaborative documents.

The timelines on monday.com allow you to see all your projects overlaid on a calendar.

Pricing

If you’re looking for affordable software to manage construction projects, monday.com could be for you. There is a free plan, but it is very limited, and the Basic plan, which costs $12 per user per month (billed monthly), doesn’t offer many features.

However, monday.com’s $14 per user per month Standard plan and $24 per user per month Pro plan (billed monthly) offer incredible value. The only downside is that each plan has a three-seat minimum requirement. There’s also an Enterprise plan. For a team of 25, monday.com will cost between $16,000 and $19,000 annually. If you sign up for an annual subscription, you can save 18%.

Customer Service

If top-notch customer service is high on your list of needs, monday.com has you covered. You’ll find an AI chatbot that can direct you to excellent guides in the knowledge base and connect you with live chat agents. There’s also a monday.com academy that can help you improve your skills. You can request a callback if you have a question about billing, but that’s the extent of phone support.

To test monday.com’s customer service, I had several live chats and sent a help request through email. The live chat representatives are helpful, polite and responsive. I received help quickly and my problems were resolved. I sent an email and received a helpful reply in 90 minutes. Overall, you can get help quickly if you need it.

Reputation

Despite being involved in multiple threat actor events, the latest of which affected customers through an email phishing attack, the platform is well-received by users on Capterra, G2 and Trustpilot. Users appreciate the easy-to-use tools, project templates, integrations and no-code automation. Common complaints include the lack of advanced reports, basic weak financial tools and slow customer service, which I’ve not experienced.

What Is Construction Project Management Software?

Construction project management software allows businesses to plan, track and manage various projects from start to finish. With software, you can manage resources and finances; upload photos and documents such as invoices, permits, licenses and blueprints; communicate with team members; and provide client access to projects through dedicated portals.

Some platforms, such as Autodesk and Houzz Pro, allow users to create detailed 2D and 3D construction models through BIM (building information modeling) tools. Another key feature is support for online payments, which means that with the right platform, you can manage projects from beginning to end with just one piece of software.

How To Choose the Best Construction Project Management Software

Before locking your business into an expensive plan, do your due diligence and ensure the software offers everything you need. Examine the listed features on the provider’s website to determine if the software suits your area of expertise.

Essential Workflow Management Software Features

When picking software for your construction firm, double-check to make sure most of the features listed below are included in the software.

  • Task management tools: Ensure that the software you’re looking at includes task-tracking tools such as Gantt charts, Kanban boards, lists, calendars and spreadsheets. This way, you’ll be covered no matter the project management methodology you’re using.
  • Communication features: Communication tools, such as live chat and commenting, are essential, especially if you must reach team members on a job site or interact with customers.
  • Client portals: It is vital to have tools that allow clients to communicate, make design decisions and see how the project is progressing.
  • Finance and resource management tools: The software you’ve chosen must allow you to track finances, create invoices, receive payments, and plan and manage resources. With the right features, you can increase efficiency and reduce costs. Additionally, robust tools can help keep scope creep at bay.
  • BIM support: While not essential, choosing software that supports BIM or 3D modeling can help you create detailed building renders that can help minimize risks and mistakes.
  • Integrations: Make sure your chosen platform can integrate with the business software you already use such as accounting tools.
  • Automations: Construction project management software that enables automations can help your team become more efficient and can help cut costs.

Ease of Use

Before jumping into any old piece of software, take advantage of free trials or demos. This way, you can get a feel for the software without spending a penny. If you choose a platform with a steep learning curve that is hard for everyone to use, everyone will become frustrated and possibly fall behind on work.

Customer Support

Customer support is vital. Do your research to ensure your platform of choice offers multiple ways to interact with customer service. Don’t be afraid to try live chat tools, call technical support or send emails. The more confident you feel about the levels of support on offer, the better.

Reputation

I cannot stress how important it is to take the time to research any company you are considering giving money to. Perform searches to see if the company has suffered from data breaches, and if available, read security white papers and real-world review sites to see how those who use the software daily feel about their purchasing decision.

Prices for construction project management software vary, with some plans starting as low as $12 per user per month (monday.com) when billed monthly and as high as $499 per month when billed monthly (Buildertrend). Before jumping into any plan, sit down and establish how much you can comfortably spend monthly and annually.

Keep in mind that the prices of plans are impacted by the features, the number of users the plans support and the company’s overall reputation. Also, remember that many companies offer discounts if you sign up for yearly plans.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What is the best construction project management software?

The Forbes Advisor list of the best construction project management software is a great place to start, but you may find that software you’re considering didn’t rank. The best software for construction project management may be more suitable for a bigger company—Procore is too high in cost for small businesses. You also might be in the need of something specific to home builders such as CoConstruct.

How do you manage a construction project?

Managing a construction project requires project managers to stay abreast of costs, time, quality, changes, risks and progress of projects. Typically, they handle subcontractors, billing, invoicing and closeout, and they may be involved in bidding and proposals. There’s also usually some people management (in the office)—superintendents tend to manage those in the field.

Which software is used in construction?

Contractors may use a variety of software to complete projects, including project management, building information modeling (BIM), bidding and estimating and invoicing or billing software.
