Lowe’s Protection Plans are available upon request after purchasing products sold apart from the standard repair and replacement services. However, unlike other home warranty companies, Lowe’s plans only cover one item, and these plans work very similarly to extended warranty coverage. Lowe’s has been offering appliance protection plans for over 20 years. They are available for many products, including refrigerators, ranges, dishwashers and more.

These plans can help protect you from unexpected repair costs by covering parts and labor expenses when something goes wrong with your appliances.

Pros

  • No deductible required
  • Offers repair and replacement services
  • No waiting period

Cons

  • Product coverage limited to one per plan
  • More expensive than other comprehensive home service contracts
  • Not BBB accredited

Lowe’s Protection Plans at a Glance

Lowe’s is a U.S.-based hardware and home-improvement company with stores in 50 states. Founded in 1946, Lowe’s has grown to be the second-largest home improvement store in the world and the United States.

The company offers repairs and services to store-bought appliances through its Lowe’s Protection Plans which provides coverage beyond what comes with your manufacturer’s warranty. The additional security can help save you money on repairs, replacement parts and labor costs if appliances malfunction or break down within a certain period of time after purchase.

Key Takeaways

  • Lowe’s Protection Plan offers extended warranty coverage for appliances and electronics purchased directly from Lowe’s, making it convenient for in-store customers looking for added protection.
  • While the plan covers repairs, replacements and accidental damage on select products, some users report challenges with claim response times and follow-up support, which can vary by region.
  • For select items like power tools and furniture, the plan includes accidental damage coverage, covering incidents like drops, spills and structural issues, depending on the product.

The Protection Plans offer replacement services, covering parts and labor costs, including in the event of a power surge. The company also offers a Fix It or Replace It policy to ensure that no matter how many repairs or defects a product has under coverage they’ll do their best to replace it.

You can purchase a Lowe’s Protection Plan at checkout when you buy certain appliances in-store. You can also buy online before your purchase through Lowe’s website or another retailer (like Amazon). The protection plan can be purchased per item, or you can obtain a joint protection plan for multiple appliances. What We Like About Lowe’s Protection Plans

Lowe’s Protection Plans offer a notable advantage for customers seeking straightforward appliance and product coverage. Unlike traditional home warranties, these plans focus on individual items purchased through Lowe’s, covering a range of appliances, power tools and outdoor equipment. The plan provides flexibility in coverage duration, with three- or five-year terms available, plus benefits like no deductibles and straightforward repair or replacement services.

These plans cover accidental power surges, offering additional peace of mind for buyers and the no-waiting period policy means protection starts immediately upon purchase. Lowe’s also includes perks such as the “Restock Your Food” reward for refrigeration issues and a 30% cashback reward if no claims are made, adding practical value for homeowners.

What We Didn’t Like About Lowe’s Protection Plans

While Lowe’s Protection Plans provide useful coverage, they come with a few limitations worth noting. Coverage is limited to products purchased through Lowe’s, which may be restrictive for those looking to protect items from other retailers. The plans can also be more costly than comparable extended warranties, especially when bundling multiple items, which could be a drawback for budget-conscious shoppers. Additionally, the plans lack coverage for accidental damage, a feature included in some other protection plans, and customer support can involve multiple steps and entities, creating potential delays in claim resolution. Lastly, Lowe’s has received mixed reviews on service quality, particularly concerning claim processing and communication, which may be a concern for those prioritizing quick, seamless support.

Lowe’s Claim Response Times

Lowe’s Protection Plan emphasizes accessibility and efficiency in handling claims, allowing customers to file claims online or by phone with clear options for both regular and emergency services. For standard claims, Lowe’s aims to offer prompt service scheduling, typically working with an authorized technician for product repair. Emergency claims are prioritized during peak times or severe weather to minimize downtime and ensure urgent repairs are handled as swiftly as possible.

One notable feature is the Repair Quick Guarantee, which provides an added layer of assurance for customers needing rapid service. If a product covered by Lowe’s plan is not repaired within seven days from the scheduled appointment, customers may receive a $50 compensation. This guarantee depends on the customer’s acceptance of the first available service appointment and applies only to products eligible for on-site or pickup service, encouraging timely responses and keeping the repair process transparent.

Additionally, Lowe’s Protection Plan customer service is prepared to assist with the various claim categories, including standard repairs, emergency support and maintenance-related reimbursements. With these structured options, Lowe’s claims response times and policies aim to deliver a streamlined, customer-focused approach to handling repairs and replacements.

Customer Support & Reviews

Lowe’s Protection Plan is directly offered by Lowe’s for its in-store products, setting it apart from third-party warranties. Given this unique relationship, customer feedback on platforms like Reddit provides a closer look into user experiences specific to the protection plan itself, rather than relying on general sources like the Better Business Bureau or Trustpilot, which often cover the broader aspects of the company. Below, we’ll look into firsthand feedback from Reddit to understand how well Lowe’s protection plans serve customers in real-life scenarios.

Reddit

In one detailed Reddit thread, a customer shares a frustrating experience with Lowe’s Protection Plan after purchasing a washer that they said started malfunctioning within two years. When the repair technician identified a need for new shocks, the customer said they waited months for the part to be ordered, only to later be told the washer was unrepairable. Attempts to reach Lowe’s customer service led to repeated assurances of a reimbursement check, but, according to the user, after several lengthy calls, the status unexpectedly changed, claiming no issues existed with the washer at all.

Throughout the thread, commenters discuss their own similar experiences with Lowe’s protection plans, noting difficulties in reaching consistent customer support and delays in receiving promised services or replacements. Several users also highlight challenges with the claim process, from extended response times to occasional discrepancies between what customer representatives state and actual follow-through actions. For some, Lowe’s offers only a store gift card for the depreciated value of the original product, which can add another layer of dissatisfaction.

This anecdotal evidence underscores potential areas for improvement in customer service responsiveness and plan transparency, two factors that Reddit users generally agree could be enhanced for a smoother protection plan experience. However, it’s worth noting this is just the experience of a select few Lowe’s customers and you should always reach out to the company directly with any concerns.

Lowe’s Protection Plans  vs. Liberty Home Guard

Lowe’s Protection Plans and Liberty Home Guard both offer options for protecting household appliances and systems, yet they cater to different needs. Lowe’s focuses on in-store products, emphasizing convenience for customers who want straightforward protection and peace of mind at the point of sale. Its plans cover a range of major appliances with options for in-home servicing, but reviews suggest variability in service response times.

In contrast, Liberty Home Guard, a standalone home warranty company, offers broader customization through its three main plans and over 35 optional add-ons. Liberty Home Guard is ideal for homeowners seeking flexibility and additional coverage options, though its $2,000 annual payout cap per item might be limiting for those with high-value appliances or complex systems.

Lowe’s Protection Plans vs. ServicePlus Home Warranty

Lowe’s Protection Plans provide repair or replacement coverage for appliances purchased from Lowe’s, making it a convenient choice for customers looking to simplify protection for newly purchased items. The plan options emphasize in-store repair support, though users have reported mixed experiences with claim processing. ServicePlus Home Warranty, on the other hand, operates independently from a specific retailer and offers two plans — Gold and Platinum — covering 15 and 20 items, respectively. With additional add-ons and a 24/7 claims hotline, ServicePlus provides homeowners more flexibility across multiple systems but has a $1,500 cap per contract, which could limit coverage for extensive repairs.

Are Lowe’s Protection Plans Right for You?

If you’re not looking for a comprehensive home warranty plan, but instead need extended coverage for one or two in your household, Lowe’s Protection Plans might be right for you. However, since they’re limited to one product and only to products purchased at Lowe’s stores, this option might be too limited for some homeowners. If you are looking to get coverage for more than a couple of products purchased at different stores, it might be a better option to choose a different home warranty coverage solution.
